Old Man Scary Cellars in San Saba Texas
You might catch Sam Williams steer wrestling at the rodeo but on this site, meet the singer/songwriter, Sam Williams originally from Greenbrier, Arkansas.
Sam aspired to playing guitar when he was nine years old and at only age 14 began playing with a local band. Thanks to the encouragement and guitar lessons from Fred Williams, Tag Green and Jeff Clanton, Sam’s musical interests continued to emerge. Playing the guitar and joining the band for Sam was only the beginning as Sam soon realized that it was only natural for the next step to be putting words on paper and creating his own songs and music.
Sam’s music inspiration comes from a wide array of artists, from Waylon Jennings, Randy Rogers, to the Stone Temple Pilots, etc.; so it is not surprising that his own music reflects tones of Southern Rock, Red Dirt Country as well as a little Blues.
“It just hits me,” says Sam when he is asked what inspires him to write a song. Often he will share with the audience his story about “Whiskey River Blues.” Sam tells of how he and a friend of his were just hanging out and the friend told Sam they ought to write a song about picking up chicks. Sam responded to his friend and said songs just don’t happen that way. The friend didn’t take no for an answer and instead told Sam they could alternate thinking of lines for a song…and that is exactly how Sam and his friend created “Whiskey River Blues.” So as Sam says, “You never can tell when or what might inspire you to write a song…it just happens.”
Sam is a crowd charmer and stunning stage performer. He pleases the audience and warms the hearts of those that listen to his music. Sam not only plays an astounding acoustical show but he sets the dance floor on fire when accompanied by his band. He has performed in a variety of venues and festivals, including the Bud Light Stage at Little Rock’s Riverfest as the opener for headliners Uncle Kracker and The Black Crowes and Lucero.
Sam has won numerous awards inclusive of first place playing with the Social Experiment band in the Faulkner County Battle of the Bands, 4th place in the National HSRA Talent Competition with competitors from all across the United States. He was also privileged to win first place with an original song and acoustical performance hosted by the Arkansas Star Talent Search held at the RayLynn Theater in Hot Springs, AR. In 2012 he released his debut single “Out of San Antonio” to the Texas Music Charts. The song climbed all the way up to the top 40 in the charts.
Sam is a graduate from Tarleton State University in Stephenville Texas with a BA in Marketing. Sam competes in PRCA rodeos and loves playing and continuing his music career. Sam now lives in Wimberley, Texas, and believe you me…Listen up as this cowboy is ready to set Texas on fire!
